Back on Track EQ3 Helmet

Screen Shot 2017-05-11 at 12.12.24I am a self confessed helmet hater. Up until last year I didn’t really see the point of wearing a helmet, because it had been about 20 years ago since i’d fallen off a horse. Besides this, I had never found a helmet that was comfortable enough to wear longer than 10 minutes without giving me splitting headache and… I had simply never found a helmet that did my face shape any favours.

When I moved to a new stable where helmets were mandatory and started working with my young mare, I gave in, bought a crappy cheap helmet and went with it. Oh, did I ever not regret wearing a helmet, because yes, for the first time in 20 years, I was catapulted off of my young bucking bronco and hit my head so hard that even with helmet I had a mild concussion.

I bought myself a new helmet after the incident and decided to spend a little bit more on one that actually fit and looked ok-ish on my head and tried about a million different styles and brands before settling on a classic blue one.

Now, I had the chance to test a new helmet by Back on Track and besides it being the perfect shade of electric blue, I think I have finally found a helmet that is fits my head shape perfectly and is extremely comfortable.

Back on Track has been producing helmets for quite some time, and have recently launched the 3rd generation EQ riding helmet. Their team of designers have worked with the rider in focus to ensure a perfect fit and maximum security. The EQ2, the predecessor to the EQ3, was named the best riding helmet 2014 by the insurance company Folksam when testing riding helmets. What makes the EQ helmets stand out compared to many other helmets is the unique MIPS technology.

So what is this MIPS technology exactly? It was developed in collaboration with the Royal Institute of Technology and the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm. Accident statistics show that the most common accidents caused by angled bumps on the head, so it will cause a rotational force on the brain. MIPS provides extra protection in the event of a slanted impact in the event of a fall.

The EQ3 helmet has a comfortable fit, sleek style, excellent ventilation and is weighted down in all the right places for a more comfortable riding experience.

In addition to being one of the safest helmets on the market, and looking great, it is also surprisingly affordable (under 200Euro).
