Taking the ‘rains’

The days are getting shorter, the nights longer and the mornings colder… yep, Autumn’s is on its way! What I love about Autumn is the gorgeous coloring of the leaves and the great layering of early winter fashion, but, one thing I don’t particularly like though, is the relentless rain this season seems to bring with it. Nowadays though, rain really is not that big of a problem anymore around the barn and or on your horse. Gone are the yellow plastic raincoats, the heavy contraptions that shield you from the rain but make you sweat like a racehorse or the musty old wax coat that rears it’s ugly head every year.

Inspired by the rained out World Equestrian Games, I thought it would be time for a little raincoat round-up.

Here are a few of the best stylish and functional mid-season raincoats available out there right now:

Irish rain

Irish weather

We have been blessed with the most gorgeous Indian summer weather over the past few weeks, but now, unfortunately, that rainy, chilly, dark and cold autumn weather has finally reared its ugly head.

But you know what they say: bad weather doesn’t exist, just bad clothing. And for us equestrians outdoors in the mud and rain a lot, we really do depend on the quality of our clothing to remain, dry, comfortable, active and …. stylish.

I was recently introduced to a new Irish brand called Georgia in Dublin that specializes in exactly that: comfortable, functional and above all stylish rainwear to keep us equestrians going during those blustery, rainy days.

Today I have featured the ‘Dublette’ by Georgia in Dublin in Vineyard green: elegant riding wear that can be made to fit over any type of clothing and keeps you dry in the saddle. I decided to pair it with the Horze Grand Prix Silicone seat navy breeches and a classic cream cable knit sweater by Ralph Lauren. I’ve continued the green and blue theme with a navy blue Uvex Suxxeed Glamour helmet, a pair of Tory Burch ‘Stormy’ rain booties for before and after your ride and a super stylish and warm Gucci rose patch checked scarf.

Classic cognac color for leather goods is always a good idea, especially with this Irish rain look. I’ve added a pair of Petrie Polo boots, a signature Hermès belt, a pair of Hauke Schmidt Arabella gloves and a Valentino Rockstud crossbody bag to bring your keys and phone to the barn in style.

Stay dry and have a stylish ride!

My competition style special

Today was our very first competition day where we had the perfect storm of everything that could go wrong at your very first test: horse refusing to load (while normally walking on happily without a care in the world), the worst weather (rain, rain, rain and more rain) and dogs walking through the arena during the test (did someone say spook?).

We ended up somewhere in the middle, a result with which I am incredibly pleased considering all of the excitement leading up to the actual test. Best of all was the judges comments on us being a great combination and looking good to boot!

I thought I’d share my competition style with you today. It all starts with a pair of white breeches: I wore the Horze Grand Prix full seat breeches – affordable, comfortable and great quality!

Then, I added on one of the shirts I actually love training in as well: the Asmar Equestrian Oxford show shirt and topped it off with the stunning and comfortable Euro Star Maxima show jacket.

I paired my black Ariat Heritage contour field boots with my Horses by Pumps en Paarden belt and of course I wore my favorite Samshield helmet and Roeckl gloves.

My lucky charm for the day was my custom made stock tie by No Concept – with a very small hint of orange to fit with my Hermès saddle pad.

My saving grace for the day was most certainly the Uhip sports jacket and matching rain skirt: both not only kept my white breeches clean and outfit looking on point, they also kept me wonderfully dry while warming up in the pouring rain. A full product review on these beauties will follow very soon!

I sure hope you guys had as much fun competing this weekend as I did. Can’t wait for the next one!!

4 seasons in 1 day

4 seasons in one day

4 seasons in 1 day, that’s exactly the weather we had over here over the past couple of days. Bright blue spring skies with a gentle warm sun followed by gusts of wind, rain and even snow. Best be prepared for everything with this super versatile street to stable all season look.

This outfit not only incorporates some of my personal favourites, but also shows off my absolute all season favourite color combinations.

Let’s starts with he star of the show: the Asmar Equestrian ‘all weather rider’ in navy blue. You might have seen it pass by in a few of my posts or have read the product review (if not, do so HERE). This jacket really is your 4 seasons in 1 day best friend: lightweight enough to layer, warm enough to ride through cold gusts of wind and it will keep you dry when caught in an unexpected spring shower.

You’ve probably also seen me wearing my favourite brown vest over a mustard colored top quite a few times, here are some options for you to wear the same kind of look: The Horze Lara vest is a beautiful shade of brown and goes great with the Park Cross shirt. Wear it all with a pair of Asmar Equestrian super chic denim breeches and with a pair of my favorite Roeckl equestrian grip gloves.

Complete the look with some stylish dark brown ride accessories like the Tucci Harley field boots, a Frame Denim belt and Samshield shadow mat helmet (I have it in blue and LOVE it!)

Just a few more accessories to make this look extra versatile and stylish: a super cute ‘evil eye’ scarf by Slater Zorn for warmth and style and a pair of Rönner design customisable monogram slipper for the ultimate street to stable look.

Hey rain, it’s ok, you can stay!

rain is ok

Ah April, you fickle friend! One day you give us a hint of gorgeous summer day and the next it’s cold, rainy and grey again… But hey, rain, it’s ok, you can stay, because then I can wear this incredibly cool transparent Oslo raincoat by Kingsland over my springtime #rootd.

Teal colored breeches are one of my absolute favourites for this time of year, like this Tailored Sportsman Trophy Hunter knee patch pair. Wear them with a crisp white Ralph Lauren polo and with the hottest color this spring time: a coral vest by (c) Studio.

When it rains, you of course need a pair of wellies to match your look, and Joules will always have a pair for you like this ‘Kelly welly’ boots. Change into a pair of Petrie Athene polo boots for your ride and match your Roeckl gloves, Scharf UK No.8 Helmet  and HKM Bit belt to your boots.

No spring time look is complete without a sparkly fresh coral phone case by Casetify and a matching teal Burberry vintage scarf.

Stay dry and have a stylish ride!

April showers…

april showers

…Bring May flowers, well, I hope so after the dismal grey days we’ve had over here. Gloomy spring weather is no reason to not look stylish when heading out for a ride. Here is a look that will suit both spectator and riders on those spring time rainy days.

Combine a pair of Tailored Sportsman Trophy Hunter side zip breeches in sand color with a flowy crisp creme colored blouse from By Malene Birger – a stylish and sleek Danish brand, one of my all time favorites.

To remain dry during the spring showers throw on this transparent Hunter rain coat and start of your day protecting your riding boots from the rain wearing these Burberry short rubber boots. When riding, change into these gorgeous custom Stivaleria Secchiari boots.

Add on some no miss matching accessories like the KEP Italia Python shine natural helmet, a beige Shop Hunt Club Derby belt and the Mountain Horse crochet gloves.

Don’t leave the house without the hero of today’s look: the functional and gorgeous Persolé equestrian umbrella. They are not only stylish, but also rain and sun proof with up to SPF50+ protection.
